State-by-State: how to get involved

As many states kick off their congressional sessions this month, now is a great time to advocate in your community. Lawmakers are hard at work and you can push for mental health reform by making your voice heard. Refer to the resources below for helpful ways to get (and stay) involved with public policy in your state.

View your state report card:

Hopeful Futures is a campaign dedicated to combating the youth mental health crisis. As part of their effort, they have published a report outlining the state of mental health support systems in each state. View these assessments and share them with your community to learn more about how your state handles mental health.

Attend a State Capitol Day:

Many states have upcoming State Capitol events where advocates will have the opportunity to meet with legislators and have their voices heard. View this calendar to find a State Capitol day in your state this Spring!

Monitor your state’s session:

Utilize this resource to find when your state’s congressmen are meeting. Follow the bills that are introduced using your state government’s website and encourage your representatives to vote on bills that matter!

Now is a great time to push for legislation in your state in the effort to reduce teen suicide. Share this article with your family, friends, and adults in your life. Don’t be afraid to get involved and don’t forget HOPE: Hold On, Pain Ends.
